The matariki celebration

wake up Alice it’s time to get up. I got up not instatly but fast enough that Dad did not pull the covers off my bed. I sat down on the couch looking like a ghost, my hair was all messy and I also felt like a ghost. That morning I woke up so early that I put my pants on the wrong way round and I didn’t notice until I grabed my bag for school. long story sort my Mum came down the stairs and said “look at your pants go put them on the right way” “ok” I said.

In the car I thought to myself oh no I missed the matariki celebration. never mind I bet you we will get taught all about it all at school after that very long drive. I thought we were finally at school and just like that its time for another amazing day of school.

Alice’s speech

Ok let’s get straight to the point. This is not going to be your average boring speech about your Average boring topic. My name is Alice and I’m here to tell you about traffic management in New Zealand.

Did you know there is a war in New zealand. A cone war is being invaded by a race of rapidly reproducing orange cone people.

You see it’s a tricky argument to have because one cone is safer than no cones and two cones are safer than one. Is this cycle going to continue? until there is a cone in front of your toilet in case you accidentally put your head in it.

Traffic Management is an Organization For Road safety. If you didn’t know. Also traffic management is a form of planning because there is a huge traffic problem in major cities and other areas of New zealand.

There are many accidents that are caused by bad management of traffic. To minimize the accidents and to save peoples lives the traffic management plans are designed for safety not only of road-workers, drivers and their passengers but also of bikers and pedestrians.

On one hand, traffic management is important and good for public safety. On the other hand, it can be a major source of confusion and plastic pollution.

One thing is for sure, originally traffic management was designed for the safety of road workers and now it’s turned into an industry.

Ok Let’s get into this. I live in Taipa and every second afternoon I go to the ice cream shop in Cable Bay.  For the past month they have been Concreting around the toilet with lots of traffic management cones around.

First, why do we need the area around the toilets to be concreted when there is a gravel parking area across the road with potHoles in it. Also why do they need to put so many cones out on the road when we are all trying to go to school or work. It’s just unnecessary!

The traffic cones get taken and end up as plastic rubbish on our local beaches and reserves.

Why do you need to put out so many cones? and it’s not just me that thinks it’s my whole family that’s like 90 people! I don’t know about you. But that’s a lot of people if you ask me.

I guess one of the reasons we need the road cones is to slow down the traffic. Maybe, instead of turning New Zealand into a road-cones kingdom, we could use other ways to slow down or control the speed on the road.

For example, could we introduce lower speed limits on some parts of the road or highways?

I am afraid there is no easy or clear-cut answer for this topic. But one thing is for sure – we need to minimize plastic pollution and be more careful on the roads.

Thank you so much for listening to my speech but just one more Question. Cones or no cones. What do you think?

Help!

“Wake up we’re going to miss our plane” Mum said, shaking me” ok ok I’m awake” I said still half asleep “go get dressed and share your toast to eat on the way” as I raised the car, I rimmed  my travel pillow.

“Ok we made it but only just” I said to Mum and Dad while I was still tring to cacht my breath. New york was like 40 hours away, it was a nomal plane ride food, Movies and from time to time a baby would criy but only for about 5 minites or so. but as soon I felt the shaking I know something was rong the shaking went on for about 10 minites or so so I got used to it by then. After about 2 hours, the shaking started again but faster this time and soon after we started going down like fast like really fast and then the oxsigin mask poped down Mum put my one on me and titined it, I started cring what if this was my last few minites of  on a airplane. “I don’t want to die on a airaplane” I yelled out.  I told Mum to hold Dads hand and I holded hers. I closed my eyes and thought to myself if these are my last mintes of living, what would I say and what would my last words be…..
